Athens BendTrack RailRoad Club

Years ago I dabbled a bit in N-scale model railroading. I had put together a couple of layouts that were always under construction (somewhat like my website). Because of circumstances, the layouts and the trains went seperate directions than I did.

A couple of weeks ago I walked into a hobby shop that was going out of business. I saw a sign for N-scale trains and accessories. When I inquired about them the person at the counter told me that they had all already been sold. He asked me if I was an N-scaler and we got to talking.

Mac, the person at the counter that day, is one of the founders of the local Athens BendTrack Railroad Club and he invited me to the last meeting. So, on Tuesday, I attended my first meeting. I did attend, met some very nice guys including the youngest member, 17 years old, and the oldest member, 89 years old.

After the business part of the meeting concluded, we all adjourned to the workshop where the members worked on 3 modules, out of a group of about 40, that they are getting ready to display at a festival the last weekend of September (more to come on that soon). Here are some pictures of the modules and the work being performed on them.

When the module work was completed we went back into the meeting room (a basement room in the members house) and looked at some of the clubs pictures on the web. After reviewing the club photos I asked if any one was familiar with Richard Weisser's train photos. Not too unsurprisingly, one member said "Isn't he the guy with the Hartwell photos?" and we immediately went to look at them.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable evening. I will be attending more meetings and when they update the club webpage you will see my picture there also.
