On Aug. 19, 2010, Eat for a Cause in Athens Ga - Dine Out for Kids

On Aug. 19, Whatever It Takes Athens will have its Dine Out for Kids Event. Participating restaurants in and around Athens will donate a portion of their receipts to Whatever It Takes. WIT is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to fighting poverty by helping students, especially low income students, get a quality K-12 education.

As the name states, the volunteers will do Whatever It Takes to make sure this happens. Please visit the website and watch the video about the organization, introduced by Michael Stipes (R.E.M.). And then eat one, or all of your meals, on Aug. 19, at one of more of the participating restaurants.

There will also be various prizes such as gift cards to Krogers and other places that will be given to some of those who eat at on the the participating restaurants. All Atlanta area Longhorn restaurants are participating. You can get a list of participating restaurants here.

Dine Out For Kids will take place in cities throughout Georgia as well as Charlotte & Rocky Mount, NC.

 

This Thursday, in Watkinsville, GA, Bite a Dog to Save a Dog!

This coming Thursday, Nov. 5, from 10 AM until 4 PM, the Athens Area Humane Society will be hosting the famous Oscar Mayer Wienermobile outside of it's facility at 1781 Mars Hill Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677.

Bring your kids as an excuse to tour the Wienermobile and have a hot dog or two, or three.....  There will be prizes, giveaways, adoptions, games, AAHS merchandise for sale, and in case you missed it, HOT DOGS!!!

Volunteers are still need to help with:

  • Grilling the hot dogs and handing out drinks
  • Running the game booths
  • Helping at the merchandise stand and info table
  • Crowd control
  • Help with adoption room

The weather is supposed to be beautiful, so come on down and have a hot dog and be a little kid again. And maybe you can help save an abandoned animal with your contribution, or, even adoption.
